Happy Birthday D.A. Davidson
October 14 marks a special day in our firm’s history as it was that day in 1935 that David Adams (D.A.) Davidson opened an office in Great Falls, Montana, which began the journey of our firm. D.A.’s first office was located on the first floor of the Davidson Building in Great Falls where, fittingly, our Wealth Management branch is currently located. In 1958, D.A.’s son, Ian, joined the firm as the third employee. Armed with the master thesis he wrote in 1956 titled “The Potential of a Small, Single Office Investment Brokerage Firm,” Ian’s leadership drove the firm’s growth and expansion far beyond a single office in Great Falls Montana. Ian laid the foundation for the businesses we operate today. In addition, Ian, together with his wife, Nancy, built a wonderful D.A. Davidson “culture,” including the legacy of giving back to the communities in which we live and work. Ian is now in his 66th year with D.A. Davidson, and his son, Andrew, is our Vice Chair of the Board and President of Davidson Investment Advisors. Few firms founded during the Great Depression can celebrate the continuity our firm enjoys. We look forward to continuing to write the story of D.A. Davidson in the years ahead.
Among the many contributions Ian and his successors made was to establish a set of core values and principles that continue to guide us today. We share those core values below as a reminder on this special day.
